The Impact Player will be followed by another rule to be put in place in IPL 2023. Teams can only confirm their playing XI after the toss, from IPL 2023 onwards. Allotting two team sheets for each side, teams will look to play according to what plans they have for the game and use whichever team sheet they feel is right for the tasks. A BCCI source said changing the toss rule will allow them “to plan for that match-winner.” The move, made from the BCCI’s Governing Council, has already been communicated to the ten franchises by way of a note.
“Right not, captains have to exchange team lists before the toss. This has been adjusted to allow teams to select a best XI according to batting or bowling first. This is right after the toss. This will also help the teams to figure out how to deal with the impact player.”
IPL-Similar rule has been implemented before in the SA 20 League When captains used to come to the toss in South Africa, you were allowed to put 13 names on the list. The remainder of sides would be declared through a coin toss where the captains could pick their final 11. Graeme Smith, the ex-SA captain and the director of the SA 20 tournament said that it was their idea to have this rule in effect so that a result could be achieved without any undue advantage given to either team at the toss.
