Sanju Samson captained Rajasthan Royals quite well in IPL last year. He took the squad based in Jaipur into its only final since the inaugural money-making season. The Royals lost to the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2022 final under his captaincy and finished as runners-up. This year, the team retained the majority of its core players from last year. They want to take it a level higher and win another IPL title after 15 years.
Prior to the commencement of this year’s then cash-rich league, ex-Indian seamer S. Sreesanth pronounced that the fact that the captaincy had gone to Sanju could be a “glaring weakness” for the Rajasthan-based franchise during the 2023 season.
I wish and hope that Sanju Samson will have a great martch and come back in the team India with hundreds of runs, with great things,” said Sreesanth in a video of him analysing the Royals’ team.
However, he cautioned, “Sanju as an attacking captain could also be a pitfall for the Royals in the 2023 IPL. He added that the cricketer from Kerala should attain a balance between attacking and defending as well as a balance between thoughts.
“Look, Sanju is an attacking captain, so he has to handle things nicely. He would scale back when the time is right. I’ve been telling him that, too. That could be one weakness. Balancing attack and defense:Perhaps he has to begin to strike a good balance in between defence and attack. You could nitpick ridiculous things about him even for being a cap. This will be a major point for both in strengths and weaknesses. Sanju will have to strike a balance between what he thinks and what he does,” he says.
Sandhu was named Royals captain ahead of the 2021 IPL So far Vidal has captained the team in 31 games with 15 wins and 16 defeats.
